Shinmura Judo @ Piapot Nation

Shinmura Judo’s pledge to the Piapot First Nation, is to introduce judo and create excellence using a unique style that fuses together, Judo and First Nation values. This one of a kind collaboration is based on the on the dedication of Kim Bergey Kaip and Janna Pratt. Together, with Kim’s lifelong practice of judo, and Janna’s deep connection to First Nations culture, their blend will help the students (Judokas) implement judo as a lifestyle. The students will be learning judo in an environment that encourages the development of their physicality and mental well being in each class. They will be learning the Japanese language used in judo along side the Cree language.

Our Path

Each student will have different goals set in judo, whether its doing judo for recreation or competition, Shinmura Judo is committed to developing their skills with opportunities within the province. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children, but it is not necessary.

Cyrus Kaip

Ikkyu (Brown Belt)

Cyrus started Judo in 2011. He has traveled across the country representing Judo Saskatchewan as a competitor & referee. This past season, Cyrus represented Team Saskatchewan at the 2023 Jeux Canada Games in PEI, participated the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games as a major official and was awarded his Provincial A status in refereeing. In 2018, he was a member of team Prairie Central at Saskatchewan Winter Games, winning 2 bronze medals the judo competition. In his spare time, Cyrus competes in wrestling, Olympic weightlifting & high school football!

Sahara Kaip

Sahara started doing Judo, officially, in 2011. During her time on the mats, she has accomplished many goals. She has travelled across the country representing Judo Saskatchewan at numerous national events, in both shiai & kata. Her most recent competition highlights include the 2023 Jeux Canada Games in PEI and her triple medal performance at the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games. Sahara is also a Provincial A referee and an aspiring kata judge! She has been recognized by Judo Saskatchewan, receiving athlete of the year & referee of the year awards!
